Position Summary:


The General Ledger Accountant role is integral to the month-end close activities including preparation of journal entries and analysis of account balances, balance sheet accounts reconciliation, as well as preparation of management reporting and financial reporting packages.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Assist with month-end close to ensure timely financial reporting
  • Reconciles and analyzes general ledger accounts with supporting schedules monthly and prepares journal entries related to cash, accounts payable, depreciation, payroll, prepaid expenses, etc.
  • Maintain adequate support documentation of monthly work papers supporting the general ledger; ensures financial integrity of general ledger through appropriate coding
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP and with internal policies; ensures integrity of all data transactions
  • Checks daily bank activity and records transactions in accounting software and cash reports
  • Performs monthly bank reconciliations, investigates discrepancies, and reports problems to management
  • Prepare fixed asset reconciliations and ensure proper accounting treatment based on the capitalization policy
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining amortization schedule
  • Assist in establishing, implementing, and maintaining internal controls and various Accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist with audit requests during year-end audit
  • Prepare various state property tax returns and tax reports for taxing authorities
  • Maintains/modifies/updates relevant accounting spreadsheets as directed by Controller
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies by developing and maintaining respective processes and procedures
  • Ensures that all accounting files are maintained in an orderly and timely fashion, according to the Company’s standards and policies
  • Provides high level of customer service both internally and externally


Skills & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 3+ years of direct experience in related position (ideal)
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (e.g., understand data analysis functions and can use Pivot Tables) and PowerPoint (with exposure to SharePoint)
  • Cost Accounting experience a plus
  • Organized, detail-oriented self-starter who works well in uncertainty and can establish effective, scalable, and repeatable processes
  • Creative problem solver who takes ownership of his or her actions and can form recommendations to improve his or her functional domain of expertise
  • Comfortable working under timelines and (re)prioritizing tasks to accomplish broader organizational goals
  • Great interpersonal skills, customer service orientation and adept at internal/external relationship-building; ability to manage up and across the team, as well as cross-functionally
  • Proven skills in analysis of data trends, presentation and reporting
  • Strong aptitude for learning information systems; experience in several Financial Reporting and ERP systems
